The Carbon Management in Business short course has been designed to offer individuals the opportunity to help their businesses and organisations to reduce greenhouse gas (carbon) emissions, become more sustainable, and contribute to net zero targets for climate change mitigation.

This is a one-day interactive and engaging course (or two 1/2 day equivalents online) delivered by academics and specialists in carbon management and sustainability.

Full course description: Carbon Management in Business Professional Course

Carbon management is an important aspect of businesses of all size and type in the UK and globally. However, many of the businesses and organisations, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), are still in the early stages of their journey and need the required knowledge, understanding, and skills to implement the carbon management process.

This short course is aimed at developing managers’ knowledge, understanding, skills and competencies to effectively implement carbon management process and strategies in their business. This business-centred course will help in capacity building and upskilling of SME employees, managers, directors and owners as there can be a lack of in-house resources, specialist knowledge and expertise.

The course will support in understanding the business case for carbon management, measuring carbon footprint, developing carbon reduction targets alongside strategies/measures to reduce carbon emissions and the development of a carbon management plan for the business organisation.

 

Course Contents

· Overview of climate change, greenhouse gas emissions and the role of business.

· Policy context for carbon management and Net Zero.

· Business case for carbon management including risks and opportunities.

· Defining scopes and establishing organisational/operational boundaries.

· Calculating carbon footprint for the business and organisation.

· Setting carbon reduction targets.

· Carbon management strategies and measures (short, medium and long term)

· Carbon management planning.

 

Aim and Learning Outcomes of the Course

The aim of the course is to develop participants’ knowledge, understanding, skills and competencies to effectively implement carbon management in their business organisations.

By the end of the course, participants (and businesses) will be able to:

1. Understand climate change and carbon management in a business context.

2. Understand the drivers and business case (risks and opportunities) for implementing carbon management. 

3. Identify scopes of greenhouse emissions related to the business and establish organisational/operational boundaries. 

4. Measure the carbon footprint for the business or organisation using the resource data and appropriate standard & methodology.

5. Set carbon reduction targets and develop measures & strategies for carbon management. 

6. Develop an effective carbon management plan to strive towards Net Zero and become more sustainable.

This is a non-accredited course, however, all participants/ businesses will receive an attendance certificate upon completion.
