Introduction

Coaching and mentoring are powerful approaches for developing capability, improving performance and enabling engagement. This course is designed to equip managers and leaders with the skills and confidence to effectively coach and mentor individuals and teams.

What you’ll study

Managers and leaders will leave the course with a deeper understanding of coaching and mentoring approaches, principles and practice, building their confidence to coach and mentor their teams for improved performance and engagement, and foster a culture of growth and development.

Who is the course for? 

This course is intended for those who have responsibility for managing or leading people, who want to develop their ability and confidence to more effectively coach and mentor others

What you will learn 

During this course you will: 

  • Explore the value of coaching and mentoring at the individual, team and organisational level
  • Explore approaches to coaching and mentoring
  • Understand and explore the benefits of an organisational coaching culture
  • Develop coaching and mentoring skills
  • Enhance confidence and capability to coach and mentor effectively as a manager or leader
  • Reflect on coaching and mentoring in practice.

The course focusses on: 

•              Understanding the difference between coaching and mentoring

•              Understanding approaches to developing a coaching culture

•              Understanding principles of effective mentoring

•              Developing a coaching style of leadership

•              Developing coaching and mentoring skills

•              Understanding approaches to team coaching

•              Reflecting on your coaching and mentoring practice

•              Understanding the challenges of coaching as a manager

•              Reflecting on coaching in different contexts.

Accreditations gained by completing the course 

On successful completion of the course and assessment, you will gain 20-credits which can build towards a Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Management.

Assessment method 

4000 word or equivalent reflective portfolio. The assessment is designed to reflect on your coaching and mentoring skills and the impact on your wider leadership and management practice. You will be asked to reflect on a coaching experience within your organisation as part of the portfolio.
