Equine Care - Experience Day for 15-17 Year Olds

Weekdays, 9am - 4pm, in person

Do you have an interest in horses?

If you are aged between 15-17 years old, join the qualified Equine Technicians at Brackenhurst Equestrian Centre for the day and work alongside them learning about horses to develop your skills.

Course Description

Each day will be based around the horse needs on the day.  Examples of activities that you may get to experience are:

• Safe horse handling
• Grooming
• Feeding
• Mucking out
• Fecal egg counting/health monitoring
• Riding our indoor mechanical horse

There will be plenty of opportinities during the day to chat to our technical team and learn about what its like to work with horses.

What you need to bring with you on the day

Please bring your own packed lunch and drinks.  There are free water machines located nearby where you can refill your own drinks bottle.

What to wear:

• Sturdy footwear i.e. no trainers or open toe shoes
• Clothing suitable for wet weather
• If you have your own riding helmet you can bring your own or alternatively we can provide you with one to use

Please note that you will need to ensure whilst working with our horses that:

• No piercings are visible
• Long hair is tied back

Eligibility criteria

• You must be aged between 15-17 years old
• Have an interest in horses and their welfare
• Have parental/legal guardian consent to attend. A consent form will be emailed after booking to complete and return prior to your arrival. If this is not received you will not be allowed into the unit.

Level: Beginner

No previous experience is needed

Where you'll learn

You will spend the day on our Equestrain Centre, which is located on our  Brackenhurst Campus, near to the village of Southwell in Nottinghamshire.
