Mabel Dove (1905 – 1984) was one of the few female writers – and one of the first feminist thinkers – to produce newspaper articles on a regular basis in Ghana. Popular with male and female readers alike, her immense journalistice output covered issues such as women’s rights and women’s writing in the colonial period, education, culture and politics in West Africa. Stretching from the ‘stormy 1930s’ to the dramatic coup which unseated Nkrumah in 1966, the articles included here track a major period of Ghanaian women’s literature.
