ARES 15-17 Small Mammal Experience Day

Weekdays, 9am - 4pm, in person

Standard price per learner: £45

Indicative maximum class size: 4 

Do you have an interest in rabbits, guinea pigs and rodents?

If you are aged between 15-17 years old, join the qualified Animal Technicians at Brackenhurst Animal Unit for the day and work alongside them learning about small mammals to develop your skills.

Course Description

Each day will be based around the needs on the day.  Examples of activities that you may get to experience are:

  • feeding
  • grooming and nail trimming
  • enclosure cleaning
  • enrichment making
  • handling and basic health checks             

There will be plenty of opportinities during the day to chat to our technical team and learn about what its like to work with animals.

 

What you need to bring with you on the day

Please bring your own packed lunch and drinks.  There are free water machines located nearby where you can refill your own drinks bottle.

What to wear:

  • Sturdy footwear such as wellingtons or boots (i.e. no trainers or open toe shoes)

Eligibility criteria

  • You must be aged between 15-17 years old
  • Have an interest in small mammals
  • Have parental/legal guardian consent to attend. A consent form will be emailed after booking to complete and return prior to your arrival. If this is not returned you will not be allowed into the unit.

Level: Beginner, no previous experience is needed.

Where you'll learn

You will spend the day on our Animal Unit, which is located on our  Brackenhurst Campus, near to the village of Southwell in Nottinghamshire.
