CAD for Beginners (one week)

Monday to Friday 10 am - 4 pm, one week

Indicative maximum class size: 12

On this course, you’ll learn the basics of the computer programmes needed for effective 2D and 3D design on the PC.

Programmes taught will include AutoCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Solid Works.

Course Description

This course is very useful for designers and professionals working in 2D and 3D who have had little design software experience.

It can also support other studies, if you feel your CAD skills are in need of a boost.

To attend this course you must understand basic computer functions and file navigation – this is not a course suitable for absolute beginners.

During this course, you will:

• produce technical drawings and measurements in AutoCAD
• render sketches and produce presentation boards in Photoshop and Illustrator
• learn 3D CAD modelling in Solid Works
• work on your own projects as the course progresses.

During class times you’ll be taught the basics of each programme, with tasks and activities to complete with support from the tutor.

What will you gain?

The course will give you the skills and confidence to create professional-standard visuals for your work or your portfolio.

In addition to these sessions on campus, there'll also be an online after-care session with your tutor and the group to discuss any technical questions you have.

Level: Beginner

Entry requirement: No design software experience is required, although you must have basic computer skills.

Where you'll learn: You will be based in the School of Architecture, Design and Built Environment on the City Campus.

You’ll work in our spacious IT suites equipped with industry standard software inlcuding AutoCAD, SolidWorks and Adobe Creative Cloud.

You’ll also have access to our library to use outside of your short course; whilst you can’t reserve or take away books, you are welcome to use them as a resource for research and referencing.

Tutor profile: Sarah Turner is an artist and designer with her own business as well as teaching part time at NTU since 2009.

She graduated from the university with a BA (Hons) in Furniture and Product Design and now specialises in designing and making beautiful lighting made from waste materials.

Her work has been exhibited in Paris, Milan, LA, London and of course Nottingham, and she's completed some stunning and innovative commissions and light installations.
