On this course you will gain a working knowledge of 3D Studio Max.

It's aimed at the computer-literate beginner or those with a basic knowledge of 3D Studio Max who needs to develop to the next level.

Course Description

During this course you will:

  • be introduced to a studio scene (mental ray rendering), 3D modelling (including the lathe, extrude, sweep and loft commands) and mesh editing
  • use parametric deformers and compound modelling (bend, twist, spherify, boolean and pro-boolean)
  • create simple animations (keyframing, animation paths and effects)
  • investigate lighting (standard lights, photmetric lights, IES lights and the daylight system
  • apply materials and UVW mapping
  • learn about architectural floor-plan building and rendering (extrusions, doors and windows) and merging assets from others scenes/populating scenes
  • be introduced to HDRI lighting and photo backplate (mental ray)
  • explore outputting, stills and animation resolutions, file types, compressions and video post/adobe afterEffects/XN view.

What will you gain?

On completion of this course you will have created high quality images to add to your portfolio.

Tutor Profile: Chris Forbes has a background in computer science. He worked with multi-million pound Enterprise Resource Planning Databases for several years before coming to Nottingham Trent University as a specialist IT tutor.

Since the early 2000’s he has developed his knowledge of 3D Studio Max and the rendering engine V-Ray. Combining his technical background with an artistic outlook, Chris has been published as a 3D artist in several current design magazines and books.
