Course Description

The course will teach you everything you need to take control of your lighting and camera and start creating amazing images. Whether you’ve just bought your first camera or have been shooting for years, understanding how light works and how you can take control of it is vital to taking your image-making skills to the next level.

On this course you will:

  • understand what’s inside your camera and how to control your exposure
  • learn about the key principles and qualities of different light and how it can be shaped, modified, softened and mixed
  • train your eyes to see light and composition in any location
  • control ambient light with the shutter speed
  • learn to choose the right lens and select the correct colours.

You'll also learn how to confidently approach a stranger, convince them to participate in a shoot and connect with and pose your subjects naturally.

What will you gain?

Attendees will leave with the skills necessary to create great portraits.

Tutor Profile: Crash Taylor is a UK based photographer, filmmaker and educator. In 2009, he was voted one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the UK by Professional Photographer magazine. He photographs 25 wedding adventures each year and has captured weddings in Spain, France, Finland and Hawaii.

When not shooting weddings and portraits, he is teaching workshops and seminars in photography and filmmaking throughout the UK and internationally. In 2014, he became a photography lecture at the renowned photography school at Nottingham Trent University, which he considers his dream job!

He has an extensive film and photo book collection that rivals many libraries. Image making whether stills or motion is therapy for Crash and what he enjoys doing most. The photography addiction began when he was 9 years old; his father bought him a Polaroid camera for a trip to Mexico City. That camera laid the foundation!

“In Photography there are no secrets, there are only principles that we don’t know or haven’t mastered yet.”
