Course Description

After traditional watercolour techniques have been de-constructed, contemporary uses of watercolour and how artists are using it will be explored. The course will be therefore be underpinned by theory and art historical references, which you’ll be encouraged to research throughout the course.

On this course you will:

  • extend wet-into-wet, wet-into-dry and wash techniques, beyond that which was explored on the beginners course
  • undertake advanced colour mixing and application exercises such as optical mixing (pointillism), use of complementary and split complementary colours, and the use of a limited palette
  • sample artist quality paints, brushes and papers
  • discover the breadth of mark-making achievable by using different materials
  • consider mixed media, other water-based media and collage
  • focus on an individual expressive project.

What will you gain?

By the end of the course you’ll have created a portfolio of new, innovative and advanced work.
