Course Description

You'll start this course with exploratory drawing on location to create exciting and fresh source material to work from during the week.

You'll investigate pattern, texture, imagery and decoration which will then inform a response in clay, where you'll use a range of clay bodies to develop your hand-building skills and surface decoration techniques.

There will be sessions on print and image making, and the opportunity to transfer your designs on to ceramics using a digital decal printer.

Your ceramic work will be complemented by exploring and incorporating found materials to create weird and wonderful decorative pieces.

You do not need any previous experience with ceramics to attend this course - whatever your background and interest you'll find it a great opportunity to learn new skills and create exciting 3D work.

On this course you will:

  • design and make contemporary pieces of ceramics
  • use contemporary approaches to methods and materials
  • access excellent facilities and equipment to realise your work
  • find inspiration from new processes, some of which might be familiar and some will be new.

What will you gain?

The end result will be a range of designs, drawings, technical files and finished objects that reflect your passion for the curious.

You'll have work to take home with you, and any work that is fired and waiting for glazes to dry can be collected (or sent to you) after the course.
