Course Description

The course will teach you how to design and create small-scale miniature sculptures using a variety of model making techniques. It’s suitable for anyone new to model making with an interest in fine art and especially fantasy arts.

The course is completely practical; you’ll be engaging with hands-on projects from day one, following demonstrations by your tutor. You’ll learn how to create organic shapes, figures, animals and other creatures, limited only by your imagination.

On this course you will:

  • sketch design on paper
  • build armatures and quick three-dimensional sketches
  • use safe methods of working with scalpels, hot glue and other processes
  • learn how to create human faces, hands, armour and clothing
  • experiment with textures such as scales, fur and teeth
  • learn the techniques needed to produce miniatures for resin, metal casting and reproduction
  • develop a personal project as the course progresses, which might include larger scale miniatures, portraits, life-study or war-gaming miniatures, and work towards a final piece.

The class size is kept relatively group, allowing lots of one-to-one tuition and peer review.

What will I gain?

Once you’ve attended this course you’ll have created your own artwork and have the knowledge and skills to continue model making in the future.
