This course is drawn from our suite of Real Estate masters programmes. The course provides you with the opportunity to explore and develop the nature of real estate management; both corporate and investment.

A CPD certificate will be issued upon successful completion of this course.  Successful completion of this course can also contribute 15 credits towards a full 180 credit MSc Built Environment award.

Course Description

Real estate management has many facets; from day to day management such as letting property and rent reviews to the more strategic issues associated with corporate real estate management. You will be introduced to the nature of the landlord tenant relationship, including relevant key legislation. You will examine the associated issues and processes which form a substantial element of real estate management, together with requirements for corporate, operational and more general management. You will be able to study the various legal, physical and financial characteristics of real estate together with the tools and management strategies required to attain optimal management outcomes.

The aim is that you will acquire and develop a critical, evaluative and yet practical understanding of the skills and knowledge necessary for the effective management of real estate assets within a range of situations and scenarios. The process of buying and selling property as a means of developing and meeting a real estate management strategy will be covered as well as the nature of estate agency as a means of achieving this.

This course will include:

  • The nature and importance of real estate management from the perspective of the client, owner, occupier and agent.
  • The practical characteristics of real estate management from a physical and financial perspective.
  • Management and administrative requirements of real estate ownership and occupation.
  • Principles and application of key landlord and tenant legislation.
  • The development and application of real estate management strategies relevant to the nature and purpose of the land and property being held.
  • Effective disposal and acquisition of real estate, as part of the overall strategic management of property.
  • The nature of real estate agency, and the role it plays in real estate management.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate and advise on the acquisition, disposal and management of real estate as a physical and economic resource.
  • Evaluate and critique practical, legal and financial management operations and complex issues in the context of a variety of land and property types and uses, including the implications of current legal practice and regulations on the short and long term management of real estate.
  • Critically appraise the quality of management systems and the application to the effect of day to day management of real estate.
  • Critically evaluate and advise on the strategic context of real estate acquisition and disposal decisions.
