This course introduces you to programming with MATLAB, a powerful piece of software that has many functions to help solve a vast array of mathematical tasks.

Course Description

The course is about enhancing your theoretical knowledge with practical applications. It offers a fast-track to the essentials of programming, and is designed for early career researchers (including MSc and PhD students), professionals and anyone involved in solving complex mathematical problems.

On this course you will:

  • learn programming in MATLAB
  • develop programming skills required to solve complex problems
  • optimise computational time and resources
  • acquire skills sought by industry researchers, engineers and data analysts.

The course will be delivered in a seminars setting which will be supported with homework and projects to cement your knowledge and skills.

What will I gain?

Upon completing the course you’ll be able to execute many mathematical functions and customise programs using your own specifications. These skills, which are greatly appreciated by industry, will complement your CV.

Tutor profile: Dr Rolands Kromanis is a research active lecturer at NTU, focussin on structural health monitoring of civil structures. He has used MATLAB extensively in his research since 2011.

Roland has developed multiple measurement interpretation algorithms and regression-based methodologies. He's also written programs to analyse and interpret signals and images.

Roland delivers and leads the Conditions Assessment of Civil Infrastructure module at NTU, in which he introduces MATLAB to his students.

He has also gained industrial experience working as a practicing structural engineer.
